The Chosen One
Morgan Freeman takes us around the world to answer to the question, “Why does a faith need a Chosen One?” To find out, Morgan seeks out Jalue, a 9-year old boy in Minnesota who’s the reincarnation of a Tibetan lama, and Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the Keeper of the Sacred Bundle of the Lakota People. At the Sikh’s Golden Temple in India, the chosen one takes on an extraordinary form. It isn’t a person, but a book. In Thailand, we witness the extraordinary facial and body piercings endured by those chosen to sacrifice themselves for the sins of others. Sacrifice is a common theme among those who have been chosen, including Kenneth Bae who felt his calling demanded he risk his life to enter North Korea to spread the word of God. In the end, we discover that the goal of the chosen one is to get a glimpse of god’s view of the world so they can teach the rest of us what that means.
